The opportunity:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Actuary to join our team of highly skilled actuaries.

 

As a Trainee Actuary, you will gain hands-on experience across key actuarial functions, including corporate centre reporting and regulatory reporting, with opportunities to become involved in planning, experience analysis, risk management and a variety of business projects.

 

You will receive comprehensive training and support as you develop your actuarial knowledge and technical skills, helping to produce accurate and timely financial information for regulators, local management, the Corporate Centre and other key stakeholders. This role offers an excellent foundation for anyone looking to build a long-term career in actuarial science.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure data used in calculations is accurate, complete and free from errors.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate calculation results clearly and concisely to team members and stakeholders.
  • Present information through a variety of channels, including reports, presentations, meetings, calls and email.
  • Update and maintain procedural documentation and working practices.
  • Support actuarial reporting, analysis and project work as required.

 

Your skills and experience:

  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills.
  • A degree (or equivalent qualification) in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or a related subject.
  • Strong IT skills, with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel desirable. Experience with Access, Prophet, R, SQL, Python or similar tools would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • A genuine interest in data analysis and problem-solving.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate work.
  • Well organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, curious and proactive in your approach to work and learning.
  • A collaborative team player who can also work effectively independently.
  • A willingness to challenge existing processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
